Roberto Niere Residence

The house was reconstructed in 1949 out of the materials from the ancestral home, which was demolished in that year. The house has a truncated roof with two rectangular ventilators. Walls are made of wooden clapboards with sliding wooden windows accentuated with wooden spindle ventanillas. There is an interesting geometric ornamentation on the window transom.

This is one of the big houses large enough to accommodate relatives and extended families. The ancestral home was owned by Roberto Niere's mother Eulaila Niere, the sister of Casimero Niere, who was more popularly known as Kapitan Miroy.

Salvacion Sestoso, the current owner, renovated sections of the house in 1969. An extension for the kitchen was also added. The house was built by Cirilio Sestoso, who was a Gobernadorcillo in Boljoon during the Spanish period.

Bell

A bell, said to be the biggest the people had seen, is installed at a tower in front of the Boljoon Church , it is meant to send a warning signal. In those days, slave pirates raided the town.

The ring of the bell resonates all over the coastal areas, even to neighboring towns.

One day the pirates came. They took the bell from the tower and sailed off to sea. The bell put so much weight it sank the ship that had carried it.

People believe the bell is at the bottom of the sea off the island of Siquijor . It is never to be recovered.

During the Second World War, the family of Gaudioso left the house and migrated to the mountains to avoid the war. It was abandoned and believed to have been used as temporary government office. From the accounts of Ms. Zoila Calonge, daughter of Gaudioso, upon their return from the mountains, they found office furniture, such as tables and chairs, which were then returned to the municipal hall.
